The  Urban Fossil  sculptures, inspired by classical geometry and human proportions, are formed through the curvature of two-dimensional planes. The work imagines an archeologist finding volumetric forms pocked with the tools and trash of everyday life. Quotidian objects, pressed repeatedly into clay, mask their origins in computer circuitry, automobilia, dominoes, or script. Pure ceramic pigments and an earthen palette evoke prehistory while the pressings of industrial waste elicit the flawed beauty of the contemporary moment. The series becomes a metaphor for the imprint of global industry onto bodies and minds.   (click upper right "+" for larger image)
